HariMitti Foundation – Towards a sustainable future with the heartland in focus We are all children of the soil. We come from the soil and go back to the soil. In the brief duration in between we receive many gifts from nature but we are not able to give back too much.
However as the years pass by, living on hard ground has changed our focus. From earthy citizens we have become fast paced netizens. In this scenario it has become imperative to reach out to people who still live by the soil and reassure them that all is not lost in a world of riches and make believe while the true gifts of the earth are lost.
Born out of terrace plantations and kitchen gardens, the Hari Mitti Foundation takes the journey one step ahead towards sustainable livelihoods along with harnessing developmental skills. The foundation has also set its vision firmly on eco-friendly urban plantations and countering climate change with water conservation and rain-water harvesting.
There are some efforts which cannot be done away with. The goals of the HariMitti Foundation constitute some of the most critical needs of modern society; to
reconnect with the soil and to re-build hope to ensure prosperity everywhere. Otherwise the divide between the common people and the modern achievers is a fast widening chasm with no connecting bridges. In this scenario the HariMitti Foundation has resolved to build small bridges of friendship and co-operation to facilitate overall development of urban welfare and rural welfare under its wide umbrella.
Miyawaki Method of Forestry In this technique, various native species of plants are planted close to each other so that the greens receive sunlight only from the top and grow upwards than sideways. As a result, the plantation becomes approximately 30 times denser, grows 10 times faster and becomes maintenance-free after a span of 3 years.
Benefits
-- A minimum of 300% more species in the same area as compared to conventional plantation species.
-- A substantial 3000% increase in noise and dust isolation.
-- Up to 30 times or more Carbon-dioxide absorption as compared to conventional forest.
-- Guaranteed growth of at least 1 meter every year, in tree height.
